1914/15 Star Trio impressed  ‘1023 PTE.  (Cpl, on Pair)  A.A. H. EVANS   9/ L. H. R.   A.I.F.’

Archie Albert Henry Evans from Norwood in South Australia enlisted 6/1/15 at the age of 34 with prior service listed with the 5th South Australian Imperial Bushmen for 1 year and 110 days during the Boer War.

He embarked from Adelaide on 23/6/15 for Gallipoli, being taken on strength on 2/10/15.

Transferring and serving with various units, Evans spent the whole war in North Africa, mainly Egypt, with the E.E.F., his last unit being the 15th L.H.R. On 31/3/17 he sustained an injury, contusion to his left hip, and spent time in hospital.

Evans returned to Australia from Egypt on 26/7/19, and died in Adelaide aged 71 on 22/11/49 ( this indicates he put his age down a couple of years on enlistment!).  He is buried in an A.I.F. Cemetery, photo of his headstone comes with the group.                       VF
