1914-15 Trio to '2809 Pte. S. Murray 6 BN. A.I.F.'

WWI 1914 - 15 Trio

Impressed to '2809 PTE. S. MURRAY 6 BN. A.I.F.'.

Sommerville Murray enlisted 2/7/15 at almost 45 years of age, stating prior service of one year with the 'Northern Mounted Rifles' (a German West African Unit?). He served in the Middle-East and France, transferring to the 58 Bn. on 17/2/16. He R.T.A. early on 19/10/16 suffering from 'plurisy and gastritis'.

Murray had previously suffered from malaria in South Africa in 1906, then again in India just prior to the First War. Many years in the tropics had taken their toll and it is stated in his file that he 'looks older than his age'. Arriving back in Melbourne on 2/12/16, Murray died soon after on 4/1/17 (this is also the date listed for his discharge !).
