Soudan War Mayor of Sydney Medal 1885 Presented by the citizens of Sydney, T. Playfair, Mayor 1885. Given to returning members of the Contingent. Engraved in the centre of the reverse to '284 R.A. THOMPSON BAND'. Pte. Richard Alfred Thompson served with the Infantry during the campaign, enlisting 19/2/1885. He embarked 3/3/85 on S.S. Iberia and returned on S.S. Arab on 23/6/85. He apparently played in the band. Toned. gF Commonwealth Military Competitions Senior Cadet Medal 'CHAMPION TEAM' for Brigade competitions. Engraved '1912-13', 'CADET J. HETHERINGTON 5th BATTn'. EF & Scarce Commonwealth Military Competitions, Senior Cadets Medal for District Competitions 1912-13. Officially (?) re-engraved to 'CADET H.W. ENGLE 80th BATTN.'. EF WWI Trio. 1/A.N. & M.E.F. All impressed "919 Pte (then Gnr.) C.F. Webb 1/A.N. & M.E.F. Cecil Frank Webb first enlisted on 11/8/14 into the "Special Expeditionary Force" (1/A.N.&M.E.F.) at 28 years of age. He states prior service with "A" Battery R.A.A. for 5 years. Webb embarked from Sydney aboard H.M.A.T. Berrima on 19/8/14 for 6 months service with the A.N.&M.E.F. in Rabaul. On his return he discharged from the A.N.&M.E.F. and enlisted into the A.I.F. as number 4408 Pte. with 1st. F.A.B. on 18/3/15. He embarked again from Sydney on 26/6/15 for service in the Middle East. On 6/9/15 Webb was admitted to hospital in Heliopolis, Egypt, with appendicitis. He was then diagnosed with "aortitis", a heart disease, and embarked from Suez on 31/10/15 for an early return to Australia, and discharge on 10/2/16. A.N.&M.E.F. trios scarce on the market. Swing mounted "long" as worn. VF. WWI 1914 - 15 Trio Impressed to '2809 PTE. S. MURRAY 6 BN. A.I.F.'. Sommerville Murray enlisted 2/7/15 at almost 45 years of age, stating prior service of one year with the 'Northern Mounted Rifles' (a German West African Unit?). He served in the Middle-East and France, transferring to the 58 Bn. on 17/2/16. He R.T.A. early on 19/10/16 suffering from 'plurisy and gastritis'. Murray had previously suffered from malaria in South Africa in 1906, then again in India just prior to the First War. Many years in the tropics had taken their toll and it is stated in his file that he 'looks older than his age'. Arriving back in Melbourne on 2/12/16, Murray died soon after on 4/1/17 (this is also the date listed for his discharge !). VF 09. WWI 1914-15 Trio '1511 Pte (then Dvr) J.A.D. Cooper 8/A.S.C. A.I.F.' WWI 1914-15 Trio Impressed to '1511 PTE (then DVR) J.A.D. COOPER 8/A.S.C. A.I.F.'. Joseph Ambrose Dillon Cooper enlisted 16/9/14 with prior service stated as being with the 1st Australian Rifles for 2 years. On 1/10/15 Cooper arrived at Mudros from England but shortly after was admitted to hospital on 8/12/15 with the loss of his left (or possibly right !) eye - it depends on which page of his file you read ! He was then R.T.A. for discharge. VF 10. WWI Trio "1286 PTE. (then CPL.) R.L.THOMAS 30BN. A.I.F." WWI Trio impressed to "1286 PTE. (then CPL.) R.L.THOMAS 30BN. A.I.F." Reginald LindsayThomas enl. 20/7/15 and emb.9/11/15 for service in the Middle East & France. He was taken on strength of the 5th Pioneer BN. and made Cpl. on 17/3/16 at TEL-EL-KEBIR. Embarking to join the B.E.F. at Marseilles on 19/6/16 He was taken on strength of the 15th Field Ambulance 6/10/16 and reverted back to Pte. at his own request on 17/2/17. Thomas R.T.A. 31/3/19 for disch. 19/7/19 VF WWI Pair Both impressed to '3378 PTE. R. ROBERTSON 37-BN A.I.F.'. Reginald Robertson enlisted 23/2/17 with prior service listed with the Senior Cadets for 2 years 8 months. He was W.I.A. in France on 10/8/18 with G.S.W.'s to his left hip and arm and a fractured femur (listed as severe). He R.T.A. 24/6/19. VF WWI Pair Both impressed to'31388 DVR. H.P. ADDIS 7.F.A.B. A.I.F.'. Henry Percy Addis enlisted 2/10/16 and R.T.A. 11/5/19. VF Territory of New Guinea Loyal Service Medal In Sterling Silver by Stokes. Numbered '411', impressed on the reverse. Issued from 1944 onwards. EF and Scarce 1935 Jubilee & 1937 Coronation Pair Both awarded to Mr. Sydney Sims Anderson, Town Clerk, Port Melbourne. With original letters confirming awards. Scarce as a Pair to Australians. VF/EF WWII Pacific Group of 4 All impressed to 'SX38804 J.S. HOATH'. Pte. Jack Stanley Hoath probably enlisted 5th May 1943, but the Nominal Roll states '1945', almost certainly in error. He discharged 19/3/46 from 6 Docks Operating Company. VF WWII R.A.A.F. Group of 4 Pacific Star (un-named), Defence Medal, War Medal, A.S.M. Last 3 impressed '264578 W. WOOD'. William Wood enlisted 21/2/42 and discharged as a Flight Lieut. on 12/2/46. With copy of some service papers. VF WWII R.A.A.F Pacific Group of 4 1939/45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal, Australian Service Medal. Stars un-named. Others impressed '34852 E.R. JOHNSTON'. Edgar Raymond Johnston enlisted 13/11/40 and discharged as a Sgt. With 8 Squadron on 29/11/45. VF WWII Group of 3 Defence, War Medal, Aust. Service Medal. All impressed to 'QX 25633 L.V. HORRIGAN'. Lambert Vincent Horrigan from Brisbane, enlisted 15/12/41 and discharged as a Sergeant from 2/3 Field Reg. on 6/12/45. He served in Darwin from 13/7/43 to 29/2/44, then in New Guinea from 13/11/44 to 25/7/45. VF
